Your girlfriend (or the one girlfriend who stuck around long enough to begrudgingly become your wife) likely has and loves at least one Louis Vuitton item.

And most likely, you’ve paid for it.
But back in the day, Louis Vuitton wasn’t all about expensive purses and credit card debt.
Louis Vuitton was a maker of fine steamer trunks and tool boxes.
In fact, a wooden Louis Vuitton tool box from 1910 just crossed the auction block at Bonham’s, selling for $3,465, which is more than the cost of even the finest Louis Vuitton purse.
The tool box actually would mount onto the running board of your vehicle, because back in those days, cars had to be fixed…a lot.
A simple trip to town would mean at least one or two breakdowns along the way, and that would be a good day.
The box is crafted entirely out of wood and brass. They don’t make them like they used to, as any trip down the Craftsman tool aisle of your local Home Depot will attest, where tools are differentiated by the color of the plastic on their handle.
This looks like something Teddy Roosevelt would have used to keep his pistol in while taking a jaunty Sunday drive–the opposite of a Louis Vuitton purse you see some whipped husband carrying for his wife today.
